At Woodham our stated aim is ‘Achievement for all’. In Careers Education this translates as every student making the right choices for progression. Each student is entitled to high quality Careers Education, Information and Advice and Guidance which includes that which is impartial and independent.
CEIAG within the school is organised by Mr Walker, (P.C.C Coordinator) and overseen by Mrs McGinnety. Each tutor is responsible for the delivery of careers within the PCC programme. We have a specially trained group of Year 11 tutors who work with our KS4 students in ensuring that each and every student is able to follow their post 16 aspirations.
A section of our Learning Centre is dedicated to careers education materials and staff working within this area have extensive knowledge of delivering careers education programmes.
In July 2013 Woodham Academy was accredited with the Investors in Careers kite mark. Investor in Careers is a quality standard for the management of careers education, information, advice and guidance (CEIAG) and is now the most widely used quality award of its kind recognised nationally across the country.
All Investor in Careers Award holders have demonstrated a commitment to provide impartial, independent careers education, information, advice and guidance to all young people.
This really is one of the highest accolades an organisation can receive for excellence in this area of work and is definitely something the school can be very proud of. The IiC standard is about improving students’ awareness of opportunities, raising their aspirations and working with them to ensure they achieve their full potential.
Woodham Academy’s excellence in CEIAG has been recognised in a case study in the Department For Education’s guidance to schools. It is no surprise that Woodham Academy students are highly successful in finding employment or in their continued studies.
