Woodham Academy has hosted a visit from the winner of the BBC TV show ‘Astronauts: Do you have what it takes?’
Suzie Imber talked about her experiences on the show, her work as an astrophysicist and how and why she became a scientist.
Dr Imber, associate professor in space physics at the University of Leicester, beat 11 other contestants to receive a recommendation to join the European Space Agency.
Her lecture, followed by a Q&A with students and parents, was sponsored by the North East branch of the Institute of Physics, one of Woodham Academy’s partner organisations.
Andrew Jenkins, Head of Science at Woodham Academy, said:
“We are keen to organise visits to Woodham Academy to encourage students to engage with science and they were fascinated and inspired by Dr Imber’s story. At Woodham Academy, we are determined to raise aspirations and ensure that students are aware of all the opportunities a career in science can provide.”
