Art & Design

Curriculum Intent

“The arts especially address the idea of aesthetic experience. An aesthetic experience is one in which your senses are operating at their peak; when you’re present in the current moment; when you’re resonating with the excitement of this thing that you’re experiencing; when you are fully alive.”

– Ken Robinson

Throughout their time at Woodham, students will have the opportunity to produce work looking at a broad range of artists and styles. Skills are built from year 7 through to year 11 in a 5 year learning journey, developing in complexity and skill as they progress.

Key Stage 3

At Key Stage 3, students will learn about the introduction to the formal elements of Art and will develop this across years 7, 8 and 9. Students will also develop their understanding of different mediums and famous (and not so famous) artists!

Key Stage 4

If students opt for Art at Key Stage 4, they will develop their love of Art, refining their skills across a range of projects including nature, animals and portraits. Students will create a portfolio of their work across their GCSE years.
