Derwent Hill Residential Trip

Woodham Academy students have recently returned from a Lake District Residential, where 60 students in Years 8 and 9 spent the weekend at Derwent Hill, an outdoor activity centre on the edge of Derwent Water in the Lake District. The weekend residential involved students taking on a range of adventurous activities, such as canoeing, ghyll scrambling, hiking up Catbells and high ropes challenges, including the giant swing!

The weather was kind to them with warm temperatures and low winds, allowing for amazingly calm water for canoeing on the lake. Student feedback from the trip was very positive with individuals feeling braver, conquering fears and wanting to be more adventurous. Mr Patterson added “We had a fantastic weekend again at Derwent Hill. It was brilliant to see all the students getting on together, tackling challenges and pushing themselves out of their comfort zone. This type of trip is exactly what young people need and helps them to build their character, with challenges that encourage them to demonstrate our school values of Be Kind, Aim High, Work Hard and Never Give Up”.

Following on from the success of this year’s trip, the school have already planned a date for next year.
