More Able Academy

Woodham’s More Able Academy has evolved from the outstanding success of the Sports Academy, providing a bespoke programme of extra-curricular activities designed to help our more able students to excel.

European City - Educational Visits

Students from the More Able Academy have taken part in trips to European Cities where they visited famous landmarks, buildings of cultural significance and museums and galleries which have an abundance of educational value. Initially this was London and more recently has been Rome. To give students a range of experiences additional venues are being looked into.

France - Eductional Visits

The Modern Languages Department organises an extremely popular study visit to the Opal Coast in North East France. The trip always takes place at the end of the summer term for Year 8 students.

Visiting France gives students the opportunity to use French in real-life situations and gain experience of the French way of life. They complete a study project and take part in a number of excursions to places such as Le Touquet, the Aqualud Water Park, Bagatelle Pleasure Park, Nausicaa Sea Life Centre, as well as the Beussent chocolate factory and a bakery (where we learn how to make pains au chocolat and croissants.)

Skiing - Educational Visits

Students from Woodham Academy have been enjoying snowsports trips to the Aosta Valley, Italy for well over 20 years. An annual trip runs typically in late January or early February to Pila.

Pila is a resort that has been carefully chosen due to its range of beginner friendly slopes and spectacular panoramic views from Mont Blanc to the Matterhorn.

In addition to the 6 days skiing or snowboarding tuition, participants enjoy a range of diverse apres-ski activities which keep them fully engaged through the evenings.

More information about Pila can be found here

Performing Arts

For those with a musical interest, whether it is instrumental or vocal, students are well catered for. There are 3 performances annually; the Christmas Concert, Summer Concert and Grease production in the spring of 2019. The school subscribe to the local authority peripatetic service and lessons are available in strings, brass, woodwind, percussion and guitar.
