Geography

Curriculum Intent

“An understanding of the natural world and the people in it is a source of not only great curiosity but great fulfilment”

– David Attenborough

Geography offers vision beyond the students’ immediate horizons of our community of Newton Aycliffe. It aims to explain, inspire and address curiosity about Earth and the student’s place within it. It helps to provoke and provide answers to questions about the natural and human elements of the world, developing a deep understanding of diverse places, people and of the Earth’s key processes. Throughout their journey in Geography students will be exposed to the knowledge that will enable them to become informed citizens of the modern world.

Key Stage 3

At Key Stage 3 we aim to develop inquisitive Geographers through the study of coasts, tourism, natural hazards, eco-systems and global issues. Students will also develop a strong understanding of place through these studies.

Key Stage 4

At Key Stage 4, students will study the OCR specification learning about Ecosystems of the planet, People of the planet, and Environmental threats to our planet.
