Woodham Academy visit Knife Angel

On Thursday 12^th June, Woodham Academy’s year 10 photography class visited the Knife Angel sculpture, which visited Newton Aycliffe town centre, for the month of June.

The 27 foot, travelling sculpture, also referred to as the National Monument Against Violence & Aggression is a contemporary sculpture formed of 100,000 knives obtained through anonymous, knife bank amnesties across the north of England, and was created by artist Alfie Bradley and the British Ironworks Centre.

The sculpture was created in order to highlight knife crime in the United Kingdom and educate young people on the harmful effect violent behaviour can have on their communities

The students took many photographs of the sculpture, trying to capture its immense scale and the details of the welded, rusted and inscripted knifes that make up the angel’s body. The trip to see, and photograph, the Knife Angel was an artistic and photographic one, but also a reflective one for the students.
