Music

Curriculum Intent

At Woodham, we want our students to develop their ability to become active musicians. Music is a subject which many of our students may have had little or no experience prior to joining us in Year 7. We want to give all students the chance to be involved in active music-making, in a way which suits their individual needs, and to provide opportunities for students that they wouldn’t get elsewhere in the curriculum.

Key Stage 3

At Key Stage 3, it is essential that students receive a musical education which covers the main elements of Music study – listening, appraising, composing and performing. Music theory is intrinsically linked in with this. Our KS3 curriculum introduces key concepts which are essential in developing students’ understanding of the music they listen to and perform.

Key Stage 4

At Key Stage 4, students who choose to study music, will develop their love of music further by studying the WJEC Eduqas GCSE in Music. Students will develop their skills of performing, appraising and composing music across a number of musical styles.
