Leadership Academy
Woodham’s Leadership Academy has evolved from the outstanding success of the Sports Academy, providing a bespoke programme of extra-curricular activities designed to help our more able students to excel.

Woodham Sports Academy
Woodham Sports Academy offers high-quality coaching opportunities to elite athletes in a range of sports. Coaching is delivered by our award-winning PE department and through local clubs. Entry to Woodham Sports Academy is subject to selection in some sports.
Homework
All students are set homework on a weekly basis according to a homework timetable. Key Stage 3 homework is set every Monday on Doddle. Students have one week to complete homework online. There is a homework club from 3:15 - 4:30pm every evening in the Learning Centre where staff are available to support students with homework. The school provides all students access to ICT facilities during lunchtimes and after school to ensure that no student is at a disadvantage due to lack of home access to the internet or ICT facilities.

Progress Checks
Students who are making good progress are recognised through a rewards system and in our regular rewards assemblies. Where we identify under-achievement, intervention is put in place by a Head of Learning, or alternatively, a referral is made to the Learning Centre to help get the student back on track.
Safeguarding
Under the Education Act 2002 (section 175/157), schools must “make arrangements to safeguard and promote the welfare of children”.
All staff undertake safeguarding training and are familiar with the most recent Department for Education publication of Keeping Children Safe In Education – 2018.
We endeavour to provide a safe and welcoming environment where children are respected and valued.
The school will therefore be alert to signs of abuse and neglect and will follow the Safeguarding Children Board procedures to ensure that children receive appropriate and effective support and protection.

Student Support
Student Support is there to resolve any issues that may arise during a normal school day. These can be uniform, lunch money, speaking with parents, arranging medication etc etc. Our purpose is focused around ensuring students can attend lessons, behave well and make good progress.
Attendance
Woodham Academy is committed to maintaining the highest levels of attendance and punctuality and to reducing levels of absence. We believe that attendance at school is pivotal to keeping children safe, to social inclusion and to equality of opportunity. There is also a strong and direct correlation between attendance and attainment. We recognise that we have a duty of care to monitor attendance and punctuality, to identify patterns and trends and to address attendance-related issues, including truancy. Our school target for attendance is 96%.
